The default mode. It samples a ring of pixels around the border, works out which colour dominates, and removes everything connected to the edges that matches it.

What it does

The part most tools get wrong

Admitting when it cannot help. A colour-matching cut is excellent on a plain backdrop and poor on a cluttered one, and the difference is measurable before anything is removed — if the border is several unrelated colours, this says so instead of returning a ragged cutout and letting you work out why.

Common questions

What counts as a good background for this?

Anything close to one flat colour: a paper backdrop, a studio sweep, a white product background, a screenshot, a scanned page. Gradients and shadows are fine as long as they stay in the same family — raise the tolerance to cover the range.

What if the subject touches the edge of the frame?

It still works, but the border sample will include subject pixels and the confidence reading will drop. Switching to colour mode and picking the backdrop directly avoids the problem.

How large an image can it handle?

Up to about 40 megapixels. The preview is computed at a reduced size so the controls stay instant, then the export is recomputed at full resolution.
